But before we get to the delicious bait of my artistic trap, let's have a look at the rules and characters...

There are two categories, one for visual art of all media and a second category for literature. For the art theme, we're having a Land of the Sky Fan Character design contest! The literature theme is The Days Before! We have great prizes, including a copy of a Land of the Sky Volume 1, LotS Poster, subscriptions, and points!

Fae:
Faeries are magical beings. They are generally slightly shorter than most other races, but make up for that with flight. They all have pointed ears, varying skin and eye colors based on the regions of the world they come from, and hair colors range from light brown to black. Having blonde hair is extremely rare and those born with blonde hair are usually discriminated against, as it usually only happens in hybrids. Art Theme: Make a fan character that fits in the Land of the Sky world! 
Rules: • Maximum of 2 entries for the fan character contest.
• Characters must be drawn and colored with traditional or digital media.
• Can be drawn in an illustration or a reference sheet, or both if you’re ambitious.
• Preferably full body, with at least the front angle if doing a reference sheet.
• Illustrations can include official Land of the Sky characters, but the main focus should be the fan character.
• You must provide a written character profile and background info (preferably in the artist’s comment of the deviation)
• If entering two characters in the contest, they can appear in the same images, but they must each have their own deviations (ex: separate reference sheets or two separate illustrations each with the main focus on a different character)
I will provide information on different races and locations in the Land of the Sky world. I will also provide a profile template you can use and add to as you wish.

Literature Theme: The Days Before You can write about any character or characters from Land of the Sky and use the background information you’ve learned about them to write something that could have taken place before the start of the story. It can take place at any point in the past, whether it’s the near past or the far past, such as in the character’s youth.
For example, Roo and Gabriel have been traveling together for years, there’s plenty of opportunity for troubles (or fluffy moments
). Iskah has also been stalking him for years. Micah, Souri, and Jei Dun all knew each other from childhood. Kain, Fate, and Shira have been working at Café Chow Chow in Sin City for quite some time before the start of the story.Lots of opportunity for adventures and misadventures!
Just about any genre is fine; you can go with a serious theme, a romantic one, a humorous one, or anything in between.
Rules: • Maximum of 2 entries, per person for the literature contest.
• You must join the group as a member to participate.
• No mature content including nudity, smut, etc.
• Fanfics should be at least 500 words in length.
• You can include poetry in your story, but there should be prose as well.
• Be original and don’t copy someone else’s work.
Judges: 
Start Date: September 10th, 2012 End Date: November 28th, 2012 
Prizes: There will be two winners for the art category and two winners for the literature category.

Prologue:
The volume begins with feathers floating through space down into a lighted abyss below. Two figures are shown behind a short poem. The two people are Solas, the goddess of light and Jek, a Reilah prince. The poem reads:

Roo's past:
Roo accidentally killed his sister, Rachelle, when he was around 12 years old. Their parents were dead so Roo had to take care of her on his own. They lived in a small house in a human village called Arquelle Villa. One night someone broke into their house. Roo took out a dagger, told his sister not to make a sound and to stay put in their bedroom while he went to confront the intruder. She didn't listen to the "stay put" part since she was scared, as was Roo, so when she quietly snuck up behind him, he turned around and stabbed her in the stomach without thinking.
